About this adventure
The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC), inside the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area at Dingmans Ferry in Pike County, opens its hands-on Ecozone Discovery Room to drop-in families on select weekend afternoons. Inside the exhibit room children can climb into a life-size bald eagle's nest, crawl through a beaver lodge and a bat cave, and explore other habitat displays that show how the animals of the Poconos live through the seasons. No registration is needed and entry is a few dollars a person, which makes it an easy add-on to a late-fall or early-winter walk on PEEC's trails. The room is open from 1:30 to 3:30 pm on a Saturday in November and a Sunday in December; check PEEC's events calendar before driving out, as the center lists its open dates one by one.
