About this adventure

Boscobel, the early 19th-century Dyckman family mansion above the Hudson in Garrison, opens after dark for candlelit holiday tours on three weekends from Thanksgiving Friday through mid-December. The house is decorated for the season, the mansion and grounds are lit for the evening, and the tours are run as an open house: guides stationed in the rooms tell stories of Yuletide traditions, early American craftsmanship and the family who lived there, drawing this year on the Dyckmans' own letters, and talk about the large restoration currently under way. Groups set off every 20 minutes between 4:00 and 6:20 pm, which makes it easy to fit in before a family dinner, and each visit ends with a reception in the decorated Visitor Center gallery. School-age children who enjoy history and old houses will get the most out of it; the site gives no age guidance. Tickets range from $17 to $29, with 20% off for members; buy ahead for a time slot, since the season runs only six evenings.
