Sparta's Thanksgiving race, presented by Krogh's and benefiting the Sparta Education Foundation, starts at White Deer Plaza and has been held for twenty years. The 1 Mile Fun Run sets off at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K at 8:45 a.m. Results include youth age groups for children 5 and under, 6 to 9, and 10 to 14, so kids who run the full course can earn their own recognition. Proceeds go to the Sparta Education Foundation. Prices go up the day before Thanksgiving, and the downtown plaza start makes for a small-town holiday morning in Sussex County.
