On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the restored Patchogue Theatre on East Main Street shows Robert Zemeckis' animated The Polar Express (1 hour 40 minutes) on its big screen, and when the film ends the stage turns into a Christmas scene where children can visit Santa Claus while grown-ups take photos. The Santa line forms along the wall to the right of the stage and runs first come, first served, with priority only for guests who need accommodations; anyone needing help getting on stage should call the theatre's office ahead (631-207-1300). Seating is reserved, children under 2 do not need a ticket if they sit on an adult's lap, and there is a 10-ticket limit. At $18 including fees it is one of the most affordable Santa visits on the South Shore of Long Island, best for preschool and elementary-age children.
