About this adventure
Fountain Hills Library hosts a one-hour hands-on STEAM class from 4 Peaks Kids about binary, the code computers use to store information. Children first learn the basics of how binary works, then use a binary alphabet as their guide to turn letters into code and spell out a secret message with colorful beads. Everyone leaves with a personalized take-home project and a first look at the language of computers. The class is strictly for ages 6 to 11: the library says a wider age range makes it hard for the facilitators to keep the group engaged, so plan accordingly if you have younger or older siblings along. Registration is required and opens on November 7, 2026 on the library's event page. The session runs from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, in the library's Reading Lounge, and is sponsored by the Fountain Hills Friends of the Library. Families who need an accommodation should call 602-652-3000 at least 14 business days before the class.
