S'edav Va'aki Museum, Phoenix's largest preserved archaeological site, marks International Archaeology Day with a day of hands-on ancient skills. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Study of Ancient Lifeways and Technologies group (SALT) holds its monthly skills meeting with demonstrations open to everyone and an atlatl spear-throwing range. Earlier, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., the City Archaeologist leads a guided tour of the Park of Four Waters to show how Hohokam canal systems were built; space on the tour is limited and requires advance registration. School-age kids who like history and throwing things will get the most out of the atlatl range.
