About this adventure

Downtown Ridgefield holds its Hometown Celebration on the first Saturday of December, a daylong holiday festival around Overlook Park and Main Avenue that ends with the town tree lighting at 4:30 pm. In the Greely Building, children can visit Santa from 10 am to 2 pm for free and take their own photos, while the Friends of the Ridgefield Community Library hand out cookies, hot cider and free children's books while supplies last, and the Ridgefield Garden Club runs a free make-your-own floral centerpiece activity for kids. At the RACC, the YMCA serves a Breakfast with Santa from 9 to 11 am for $5 per person, and the gym fills with free kids' craft and activity stations from 9 am to 2 pm, which may include carnival games, cookie decorating, face painting, card making and coloring. A free holiday hayride loops through town from 10 am to 2 pm, stopping at the waterfront parking lot, Overlook Park and the Union Ridge Elementary lot. Local school bands and choirs perform on the Overlook Park stage from 10 am to 2 pm, more than 60 vendors sell food and gifts along Main Avenue, and the Circle of Trees decorated by local businesses is open for voting. The tree lighting comes with holiday performances and free hot chocolate and cookies while they last.
