About this adventure

The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation runs horse-drawn Christmas carriage rides through downtown Smithfield on several December evenings, so families can see the decorated storefronts and the town's holiday lights from an open carriage. Each ticket covers the whole carriage, which usually seats four to six people, so it works well for a family group or two small families sharing. Rides leave from South 3rd Street near Santa's Workshop by the Johnston County Courthouse, which means children can visit Santa (open some of the same evenings) before or after their ride. Tickets go on sale in early November and the number of rides each night is limited, so book ahead for popular Friday nights. Dress warmly and bring a blanket for small children; the rides run after dark.
