About this adventure
A 500-acre metro park and nature preserve around a 150-acre lake in southwest Raleigh. Families can walk or bike the paved greenway loops (East Loop 2.8 miles, West Loop 2.1 miles) across the boardwalk, explore natural-surface trails, watch wildlife and fish from the boardwalk, pier, accessible dock or designated bank area, with loaner rods and reels at the Waterfront Center. The city runs paddling, sailing and environmental education programs here, and the Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center has a deck about 15 feet up in the forest. Hammock posts line the greenway. Swimming and wading in the lake are not allowed (the separate Lake Johnson Pool is a summer pool).
