About this adventure

A City of Raleigh lake park in south Wake County built in 1956 around a 650-acre former water-supply lake. Families can rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards from self-serve Wake Rack lockers by the Waterfront Center, fish from the shore or the accessible fishing dock (no city permit fee since July 2024, but anglers need a state fishing license), and play on the woodchip playground for ages 2–12. Seasonal city programs here include beginner bird-watching walks, free nature-craft Playground Pop-Ups and Learn to Fish sessions for kids and teens; paddling lessons and lake tours run in summer through RecLink.
