About this adventure

An evening walk in Government Canyon's Frontcountry under the January full moon. Guides talk about the moon and the animals that are active at night, and hikers look at the moon through binoculars the park provides. The route is about one mile round trip on the Discovery Trail, a fairly level crushed-granite path, which makes it one of the easier night programs for older children; it is open to ages 10 and up, with minors accompanied by a parent or guardian. Meet at the picnic pavilion near the Visitor Center by 6:15 p.m. Reservations are required through the Friends of Government Canyon website, opening on the Saturday two weeks before and closing at noon the Thursday before the hike. Wear closed-toe shoes and warm layers and bring water.
