On the third Saturday of each month, The San Diego Museum of Art runs a drop-in Community Art Workshop in its May S. Marcy Sculpture Garden from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The museum describes it as great for artists of all ages: participants do hands-on art making inspired by the thinking and creating processes of artists on view at the museum. No reservation is required and all materials are provided. Artists under 18 must be accompanied by an adult for the whole workshop. Museum admission is not included. At the October 17 session, participants make papel picado and manteles, traditional decorations for Día de los Muertos altars and ofrendas, using templates designed by visiting artist Betsabeé Romero.
