Instead of Black Friday shopping, San Diego County Parks invites families to spend the morning after Thanksgiving in the Tijuana River Valley helping care for the regional park's Bird and Butterfly Garden. The free, all-ages volunteer event combines wildlife learning with hands-on habitat restoration: volunteers plant trees, pull invasive plants and learn about the birds, butterflies and other animals that use the garden, and snacks are provided. It runs from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 27, at the garden on Hollister Street in the Tijuana River Valley Regional Park, near the border in the South Bay. The county listing does not mention advance registration for this event.
