Liberty Station's main Salute the Season event takes place the evening after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27, from 5 to 9 p.m., in the North Promenade and Vesper Venue of the former Naval Training Center in Point Loma. The centrepiece is the lighting of the 88-foot Norfolk pine that anchors the promenade. Around it the community association plans live entertainment, festive fire-truck rides that children can climb aboard, photos with Santa (the association posts the Santa photos online afterwards for families to download) and an outdoor showing of The Grinch, so bring a picnic blanket if you plan to stay for the movie; Liberty Station's restaurants and Public Market are steps away for dinner. It is a relaxed, stroller-friendly evening that works for toddlers through tweens. The event page does not mention tickets or a fee. The Rady Children's Ice Rink and the Hanukkah menorah lighting at Liberty Station are separate events.
