On the first Sunday of each month a county ranger leads an hour-long, 2–3 mile hike through the sage scrub and chaparral of San Dieguito County Park in Del Mar, talking about the native plants and animals that make San Diego County so biodiverse. The walk starts at the butterfly garden in the lower park at 4 p.m. It suits school-age kids who can manage a few miles on dirt trails, along with teens and adults; bring water and closed-toe shoes.
