About this adventure
Hillsborough County's adaptive sports program runs an introductory wheelchair basketball class for young athletes, ages 5 to 12, who use wheelchairs. Friday evenings in the gymnasium at Miller Park and Life Center on East Sligh Avenue, coaches work on the fundamentals of the game: ball-handling, shooting and moving the chair on the court. The stated aim is to prepare kids to join a competitive wheelchair basketball team, so it suits beginners as well as children who want to build toward playing on a team. The winter session meets on Fridays from December 4, 2026, through February 26, 2027, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Registration opens on November 1 through the county's online parks account; the registration page does not list a fee, so check the price when signing up. Most of the county's other adaptive sports and Special Olympics sessions this winter meet at the same center.
