About this adventure

Rangers at York River State Park take families on a hayride down the Backbone Trail and talk about why leaves change color, which Virginia animals hibernate and the many ways nature gets ready for winter. Each ride lasts about 30 to 45 minutes and suits all ages. There are two departures from the Visitor Center each afternoon, at 1:00 and 2:00. Space is limited, so reserve the session you want in advance through the park's Eventbrite links. The ride itself is free; the park charges a $5 parking fee on entry.
