About this adventure

A ranger-led fossil hunt at York River State Park. More than 6 million years ago, before the York River existed, a shallow sea covered this area, and early whales, porpoises, sharks, clams, scallops and snails left fossils that still wash out today. The group meets at the amphitheater and hikes to a fossil beach to look for and learn about these ancient relics. Children are welcome, and there is no registration or extra fee beyond standard park parking. Wear shoes that can get wet and sandy.
