About this adventure

Billed as South Atlanta's largest Thanksgiving Day race, the Turkey Trot of McDonough starts and finishes at the South Point shopping area off I-75 in McDonough and raises money for Special Olympics of Henry County. Families choose between a 5K and a 1 Mile Fun Run; the organizers describe both as suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and the shorter run is the easier pick for children. The morning opens with music and a group warm-up, and medals go to the top three finishers in each age group, including a 14-and-under bracket for young runners. Both races are chip-timed. Registration is online, with prices rising in mid-November, and registering early is the only way to guarantee a race T-shirt. Race-day packet pickup is planned for early morning near the registration tent in the Academy Sports parking lot, so arrive early on Thanksgiving morning.
