About this adventure

The Texas Science & Natural History Museum on the UT Austin campus gives Día de los Muertos a paleontology twist with Día de los Huesos, the Day of the Bones, on Sunday, November 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. Families explore the secrets of skulls and skeletons in the museum's animal and fossil collections, color paper dinosaur skulls, follow a scavenger hunt through the galleries, and make tissue-paper marigolds. Volunteers from the Austin Origami Circle help kids fold origami butterflies while supplies last, there is face painting, and Mariachi Paredes de Tejastitlán performs during the afternoon. It is a lively, hands-on way to connect the holiday's imagery with real science, and it works for preschoolers through middle schoolers. All activities are included with regular museum admission, and timed tickets can be bought online ahead of time.
