The City of Boston and the Province of Nova Scotia host the annual Tree Lighting on Boston Common, described as Boston's signature holiday celebration, next to the Visitor Information Center at 139 Tremont Street. Mayor Michelle Wu will be joined by Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, marking the 55th year Nova Scotia has given a tree to Boston in thanks for relief efforts after the December 6, 1917 Halifax Harbor explosion. At about 8:15 pm, right after the Common ceremony, the Mayor joins the Friends of the Public Garden and the Committee to Light Commonwealth Avenue Mall to switch on the Mall's lights from Arlington Street to Charlesgate.
