Upcoming dates: Sat, Nov 28 · Sat, Dec 5
A guided family winter hike in the Blue Hills Reservation that includes rare access to the observation tower of the Norman Smith Environmental Education Center on top of Chickatawbut Hill, which is not normally open to the public, for views of the Boston skyline and possible wildlife sightings. Along the way Mass Audubon naturalists lead log flipping, wildlife watching and seasonal observations. Expect up to 3 miles on trails that are steep and rocky in places; the pace is unhurried but everyone should be able to hike at walking speed. Wear broken-in sneakers or hiking boots, bring binoculars and trekking poles if you have them, and dress warmly because the hilltop is windy. For families with children 6 to 17; every child must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the education center off Chickatawbut Road in Milton and park in the spots on the left.
