About this adventure

The Exeter Holiday Parade is adding a sensory viewing area this year. On Saturday, December 5, when the parade steps off at about 5:30 pm from the OSRAM plant at 131 Portsmouth Avenue, rain or shine, the stretch from the start of the parade to New England Pizza/Bank Prov becomes a 'quiet' zone: organizers have asked fire trucks and large vehicles in that section to refrain from blowing their horns and sirens. This year's theme is Stars, Stripes and Holiday Lights. Beyond the quiet zone, floats, marching bands and other entries continue along Portsmouth Avenue, turn onto High Street and follow Water Street past the bandstand to the entrance of Swasey Parkway, where viewing ends. The parade covers about 1.1 miles and takes roughly an hour from start to finish. Spectators watch from the public route, which is closed from about 5 to 7 pm, with road closures and parking bans directed by the Exeter Police Department.
