The 17th annual Jingle Bell Run is a South Boston holiday tradition that opens with two youth races before the main 5K. Children 9 and under can run a 100-meter dash at 9:00 am, and youth 14 and under a half-mile race at 9:30; one youth registration covers both. The open 5K at 10:00 am follows a fast, flat course along Day Boulevard's beaches and Castle Island, starting and finishing in front of South Boston Catholic Academy on East Broadway. Refreshments, awards and entertainment follow the race. The first 250 registrants, and everyone registered by Sunday, November 29, receive the race's long-sleeve shirt. Numbers can be picked up early on Friday, December 11, 6-8 pm at the school, or from 8 am on race day. Park on nearby streets or by the beach, two to three blocks away; resident-only parking is not in effect on Saturdays.
