A one-hour winter stargazing session on Chickatawbut Hill in the Blue Hills, timed for the Geminid meteor shower. Mass Audubon guides point out constellations and astronomical highlights, taking advantage of the low humidity, long nights and dark surroundings that make winter skies so clear just outside the city. While watching for shooting stars, families listen for wild owls calling, and they also meet a live owl ambassador from Blue Hills Trailside Museum up close. The program is mostly stationary, with perhaps a short walk to look for owls, so dress very warmly. Meet at the Norman Smith Environmental Education Center off Chickatawbut Road in Milton. For adults and families with children 5 to 17; children must be with an adult.
