Families dip nets into the wetland beneath the boardwalk at Mass Audubon's Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick to see what is living below the surface. With magnifiers, identification charts and field guides, children examine creatures such as mayfly nymphs, tadpoles, water striders and diving beetles, sketch their discoveries and compare findings with other families while learning how these overlooked animals hold the wetland ecosystem together. Ponding is only available to program participants. Meet in front of the Nature Center; wear clothing that can get damp and comfortable shoes, and expect dirt trails and boardwalks. For families with children 5 to 12.
