Mark the longest night of the year with a dusk walk across the meadows and trails of Boston Nature Center in Mattapan. Led by education coordinator Kim Baker, the group searches for animal tracks, listens for owls calling overhead and learns about the plants and wild edibles that last through the coldest part of winter, then celebrates the solstice together while looking ahead to longer days. Snowshoes may come along if there is snow. The trails are flat and usable with mobility devices. Dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear. Open to adults and families with children of all ages; it falls on the first Monday of many school winter breaks.
