For the nation's 250th anniversary, the Forest Preserves offer a hands-on folk art workshop at Thatcher Woods Pavilion in River Forest on Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants learn how to carve a linoleum block and hear about the tradition of Americana folk art. Materials are provided and the workshop is free. It is open to ages 12 and up because of the carving tools, so it suits older kids and teens alongside adults.
