About this adventure

Valparaiso Parks turns the open-air William E. Urschel Pavilion at Central Park Plaza downtown into an 80-by-120-foot outdoor ice rink each winter, covered by the pavilion's tall arched roof and set up with music and color-changing lights for skaters of all ages and abilities. The 2026–27 season runs from November 20 to February 28. Admission and skate rentals are sold only at the counter inside the Indiana Beverage Activity Center on the day you skate, where skaters can also warm up, buy hot chocolate and snacks, and rent a locker; helmets are free to borrow, and skate aids and an ADA skate sled can be rented. Open-skate hours change from week to week, so check the rink's calendar before going. On holidays the rink posts special hours: closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, 10 a.m.–10 p.m. on Black Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. on New Year's Eve, noon–10 p.m. on New Year's Day and MLK Day, with Christmas-break hours from December 17 to January 3.
