- Blackhawks Ice Center
Blackhawks Ice Center (formerly Fifth Third Arena), the Chicago Blackhawks' practice facility on the Near West Side, holds year-round indoor public skate sessions for all ages and skill levels. Sessions are first come, first served with no reservations or presale tickets; recent sessions run most weekday afternoons around 2:50 p.m. and weekend afternoons around 12:30 p.m. on Rinks 2 and 3, but times change, so check the session list before you go. Every skater pays admission, wears skates and shows a wristband to get on the ice; parents who are only watching get in free. The rink recommends that new or novice skaters wear a hockey or bicycle helmet plus knee and elbow pads, which the center does not sell or lend. Rental skates are available.
