A two-hour, ranger-led introduction to fishing at Perch Pond in Cedar Hill State Park. Participants look at the equipment used in fishing, learn which fish can be caught in the park and the habitats they live in, then try it for themselves. The park provides all fishing supplies, so families need nothing but water, a snack, walking shoes and clothes for the weather. Registration is required: email the ranger with your name and the number of participants. Space and equipment are limited, with groups capped at four active fishers, and registration closes at 3:00 pm the day before. The program itself is free. Adults pay the standard $7 park entry fee unless they hold a Texas State Park Pass, and children 12 and under enter free. It suits families who have never fished and want gear and coaching provided.
