The Heard closes at 3pm before the event.

Holidays at the Heard is the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary's evening holiday fundraiser in McKinney. Lights and decorations line one of the sanctuary's nature trails, and the display is deliberately kept subtle to suit a nature preserve. Along the way families get a glimpse of the Dinosaurs Live! exhibit, though the dinosaurs are not animated during the event. Santa appears each night from 6:30 to 8 pm for photos, and children can talk by radio to his elves at the North Pole, courtesy of the McKinney Amateur Radio Club. Live music plays in the outdoor amphitheater, with hot cocoa and food and gift vendors. The schedule lists December 11–13, 2026, 6–9 pm, and the museum closes at 3 pm on event days. Every guest needs a special event ticket, members included: non-members pay $17 for adults and seniors and $14 for children 3–12, and children 2 and under are free. Children 18 and under must be with an adult. Parking on site is limited, and a free shuttle runs from Puster Elementary in Fairview.
