The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation holds its 22nd annual Archaeology Fair in Haggard Park in downtown Plano, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's free and open to the public. Children can try a mock archaeology dig, a faunal (animal bone) analysis table, and displays of historic and prehistoric artifacts and stratigraphy (rock layers). Hands-on crafts include cornhusk dolls, rock painting, pinch pots, a petroglyph wall, pictographs, corn grinding, bracelet making and face painting. Stone-tool makers show flintknapping and let visitors try it, and the Bear Claw Drummers and Dancers, a Native American performing group, perform at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. It suits primary and middle-school children who like dinosaurs, history or digging. Note the date conflict: the Conservancy's own page and the listing text say Saturday, November 7, but the city calendar entry is dated November 14. Check before you go.
