A ranger-led walk to mark the start of winter at the Johnson Branch Unit of Ray Roberts Lake State Park. The group meets at the Nature Center parking lot and hikes about 2.5 miles on the Cross Timbers Trail, a wheelchair-accessible concrete path. Along the way the walk celebrates the shortest day and longest night of the year. The paved route and two-hour time frame make it manageable for families with school-age children, and strollers can use the concrete trail. All ages are welcome. Bring water, sunscreen, closed-toed shoes and clothes for the weather. The hike is included in park entry fees and may be cancelled in bad weather; check the park website or call headquarters.
