About this adventure

Two nights before Wayne County Lightfest opens to cars, Hines Drive closes to traffic and becomes a bike route through the lights. Riders start at Merriman Hollow Park in Westland and pedal past the displays to the Warrendale Picnic Area and back, about 16 kilometres in all, in what the county calls your own bike parade. It suits families with children who can ride that distance comfortably in the dark and cold; there is a separate, cheaper rate for riders 18 and younger. Registration fees rise in steps, from the October rate to a higher rate from November 1 until noon on November 13, and a top rate at packet pick-up and on event day, when only cash or checks are taken. The first 500 registered riders receive a 2026 Lightfest hat, a bike light and post-ride snacks. Packet pick-up is the day before at the park, or on the evening of the ride before the 7 p.m. start. The county warns that the displays use flashing and strobe effects.
