Sterling Heights Nature Center, 42700 Utica Road, gives Halloween afternoon a science twist with Skulls, Spooks, and Science on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Participants handle real animal skulls and other creepy natural artifacts and learn how scientists use bones and remains to study animals and ecosystems. Dissecting owl pellets lets kids uncover real bones and work out what owls eat, a hands-on lesson in predator-prey relationships and animal survival. The program ends with a craft: designing a spooky animal mask or skull-inspired artwork to take home. It is listed for ages 8 to 105, so parents can register too. Sign up through the city's online recreation system, which lists two fees ($8.00/$12.00); on October 21 the program showed as available.
