About this adventure

Sterling Heights Adaptive Recreation fields basketball teams in the Northeast Adaptive Recreation (NEAR) Basketball League, a winter league for athletes with disabilities that plays against teams from neighbouring communities. Players practise and compete on Thursday evenings, building skills, teamwork and confidence in a supportive setting where sportsmanship matters as much as the score. There are two divisions: the American League for players who are newer to basketball or need more support to take part, and the National League for more experienced players, and athletes may request teammates. Practices and home games are at the Sterling Heights Community Center, while away games are played at other cities' venues. The league is open to ages 13 and up, so teenagers can join, and space is limited, so the city encourages early registration.
