About this adventure
Christmas in the Falls opens with Small Business Saturday in the Menomonee Falls Downtown District, a day-long kickoff that ends with the village's traditional tree lighting. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. downtown shops, boutiques and restaurants are decorated for the season, and families can meet Santa at the American Legion Post and take a wagon ride around the historic part of the Falls. Centennial Plaza, the newly renovated square in the heart of the village, hosts holiday entertainment through the day, including St. Paul's UCC handbell choir and performances by the youth group Accompany of Kids, plus Christmas carolers around downtown. At 6 p.m. the day wraps up with the tree lighting ceremony, accompanied by the Falls Patio Players and the Menomonee Falls High School band and orchestra. The mix of Santa, wagon rides and short performances works well for preschool and elementary-age children; plan the Santa visit and wagon ride earlier in the day, then return to the plaza for carols and the lighting.
