About this adventure

Three Rivers Park District runs a free geocaching afternoon at Lowry Nature Center in Carver Park Reserve near Victoria designed for teens and adults with autism, ages 15 and up. A naturalist shows participants how to geocache with a handheld GPS unit, and the group then works its way around the nature center's permanent GPS course; everyone who completes the course earns a small prize. The course covers more than a mile of trails and takes up to an hour of walking, and the whole program is outdoors, so participants should dress for the weather. All equipment is provided. The park district asks that participants be able to manage self-care without assistance, follow an adult leader's directions and safety rules on their own, and stay with a large group the whole time, so it suits teens who are comfortable in a group setting rather than those who need one-on-one support. Sign-up is through the park district's online registration.
