Knee High Naturalists is the Delaware Nature Society's outdoor nature class for preschoolers and their grown-ups, led by the society's Teacher Naturalists at Ashland Nature Center in Hockessin. Each 90-minute Friday-morning session has its own theme and is spent mostly outside exploring hands-on: Leaves are Falling (October 23), Woolly Bears, about woolly bear caterpillars and how they survive winter (November 6), Squirrels Leap (November 20), Hibernation Celebration, looking for who at Ashland may be hibernating (December 11) and Owl Babies, which pairs the picture book with a look at real owls (January 15). The program is for ages 3-5; registration is required and an adult must take part, at no charge for the adult. Each session costs $15 per child, with a member discount, and dates are booked individually.
