Tempe Marketplace lights its holiday tree, a 60-foot Christmas tree, on the evening before Thanksgiving. Families gather on The District Street from 6:00 pm for free holiday activities, festive performances on The District Stage, a hot chocolate bar and holiday photo ops; the tree is lit at 7:00 pm, and free photos with Santa run until 8:00 pm. Mrs. Claus also makes the rounds of The District Street. Light-up toys are sold on site, and raffles with prizes worth up to $1,500 benefit Phoenix Children's. For a fee, a VIP experience from 5:00 to 8:00 pm adds reserved tree-lighting viewing, a meet-and-greet with Santa with one framed photo, appetizers, s'mores and hot chocolate, holiday caricatures and light-up toys (adults $40 and children 4–12 $5, plus processing fees; children 3 and under free; VVIP tables $250 for up to six guests). The main activities on The District Street are free.
