About this adventure
Metropolitan Youth Symphony's student musicians take the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall stage for an evening built around Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, the composer's defiant answer to censorship. The MYS Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Raúl Gómez-Rojas, also plays Bernstein's bright Candide Overture and gives the world premiere of a new work by student composer Skye Neal, commissioned through The Authentic Voice series with Fear No Music's Young Composers Project. The MYS Concert Orchestra opens the program. It is a chance for music students, tweens and teens to hear peers playing a major symphony in a grand hall, and Portland'5 lists it as all ages welcome. Seating is reserved and everyone age 1 and over needs a ticket; doors open at 6:30 p.m.
