About this adventure

Penn Athletic Field, a City of San Diego park in the Bay Terraces area of southeastern San Diego, holds a Turkey Trot race for young runners in mid-November. Children and teens ages 4 to 18 can enter, and parents may run along with them for free. Runners check in between 11 AM and noon, and the race starts at 12:00 PM. The prizes fit the season: in each age group the winner takes home a turkey, and the second- and third-place finishers win pies. Entry is $5 per young participant, paid through the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation online registration system with registration code 135328, and a flyer for the event is linked from the city's event page. It is an inexpensive way for children to try a real race against kids their own age, with the whole family welcome to join in on the course.
