Before the Fantasy Lights drive-through season opens, Pierce County Parks lets people walk the route: on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22 families can stroll the two-mile path of animated light displays through Spanaway Park on foot, in a 4:30–6:30 p.m. or a 7–9 p.m. session. Seeing the 300-plus displays up close, without a windshield in the way, suits small children who like to stop and point, and a food village along the route sells pizza, kettle corn and hot dogs, mini doughnuts, burgers and espresso. Walkers of all ages and abilities are invited; strollers, wagons, wheelchairs and other mobility devices are welcome, while scooters, in-line skates, skateboards and bikes should stay home. Every walker needs a ticket bought in advance online, because sessions are capped. There is no parking at Spanaway Park itself: reserved parking is sold for the Sprinker Recreation Center lot across Military Road, where staff guide walkers to the park, and evening guests must be parked and inside the park by 8:30 p.m. Dress for the weather; the walk goes ahead in the Northwest November dark.
