About this adventure

Pierce County Parks turns the ice rink at Sprinker Recreation Center near Spanaway Park into Ice Lights from November 27 to January 2, with skating sessions every day under more than 35,000 twinkling lights, animated displays, a giant light curtain wrapped around the rink and a 20-foot choreographed holiday tree, while snow falls inside the rink. Besides skating, kids can ride ice bumper cars that slide and spin 360 degrees (a 15-minute ride after a 10-minute safety video, booked online ahead because sessions fill), post a letter at the Santa Mail Station and pose at the holiday photo spots. Non-skaters can simply come to watch. Skating tickets are sold at the door, skates and ice walkers can be rented, and a party room can be booked for groups during sessions. Session times change from day to day: opening day runs 10:30 a.m.–10 p.m., while most weekdays have a late-morning session and an evening session, so check the county's Ice Lights session calendar before going. It pairs naturally with the Fantasy Lights drive-through next door.
