About this adventure

The Waterset community in Apollo Beach holds its 11th annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, starting at The Lakeside on Parkshore Drive. The chip-timed 5K begins at 8 a.m. on a flat course that runs north and south along Waterset Boulevard, and the Kids' Fun Run follows at about 9 a.m. with three routes: a mile, a half mile and a special mini route for the littlest runners. Children get a bib, a dry-fit shirt in youth sizes and a medal, and an awards and raffle celebration follows the kids' race. Strollers are welcome at the back of the starting line; pets are not allowed this year because the race has grown. Registration is required. The Kids' Fun Run costs $20 until November 1; the 5K's $30 early-bird rate has already passed, with further increases on November 1 and November 23. Shirt sizes are guaranteed only through November 4, and check-in and day-of registration open at 7 a.m. Proceeds go to Doby Elementary, Eisenhower Middle, East Bay High and the Dorothy C. York Innovation Academy.
