About this adventure

Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park in Sandy Spring marks Maryland Emancipation Day with a day of history. The Woodlawn Museum is free to visit from 10 am to 4 pm (check in at the Visitor Center). At 11 am speakers from the Montgomery History Speakers Bureau present the story of Paul Edmonson, a freedman who fought for the freedom of his wife and 14 children on the farm that later became Leisure World ($8, limited seating, register ahead). From 1 to 2:30 pm a guided hike follows the park's Underground Railroad Experience Trail ($10 adults, $8 seniors and children). The trail hike is the best fit for school-age children; dress for walking outdoors.
