Downtown Newnan's Santa on the Square takes place every year on the day after Thanksgiving; in 2026 that is Friday, November 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. Santa arrives downtown on a fire truck and immediately lights the Christmas tree on the Court House Square. After the lighting, children are invited to sit on Santa's lap and read him their Christmas lists. The City of Newnan describes it as an annual downtown tradition and runs it as a litter-free, smoke-free event. It is free to the public and welcomes children of all ages. The same evening is also Plaid Friday on the city calendar, a downtown shopping promotion listed separately.
