About this adventure

The Skating Club of Boston runs Adaptive Skating, a figure-skating program that gives children and adults with a wide range of disabilities access to the sport in a specialized skating experience. It is managed by The Skating Academy, the club's Learn to Skate USA program, and lessons are designed around each participant's specific needs, beginning with one-on-one introductions with the club's instructors; as skaters' skills improve, individual programs may move into small groups. The club says skaters have fun, learn new skills and grow more confident about taking on new challenges. The Skating Academy describes the lessons as individualized instruction with a volunteer by your side, for ages 4 and up, at the club's rink in Norwood. Michael Phaneuf, a special education and English language teacher in Boston Public Schools and an ice dance coach, has directed the program since 2014. The club's pages do not print lesson days, session dates or fees, so families should contact the club about openings.
