About this adventure

The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District holds its first amateur checkers and chess tournament at the Irwin Community Center in Homewood. Checkers play runs from 10 a.m. to noon and chess from 1 to 4 p.m., and players compete over multiple rounds for first- and second-place trophies. The tournament is unranked: checkers follows standard Hasbro rules and chess follows FIDE rules, and the park district provides all game materials. It is open to players ages 8 and up, so school-age kids can enter alongside teens and adults. Players sign up in advance through the park district's online registration store; the fee is $12 for residents and $17 for nonresidents.
